Tutorial Services for Students

In line with most research-based evidence, NLE have found that tutoring has had a major impact on the academic achievement of students. NLE BELIEVES that small group tutoring sessions (1:1) are better than large group tutoring sessions, tutoring is more effective in math, and that tutors of all ages can be effective. We also believe that programs with professionally trained tutors whose work is connected to the classroom see the largest academic gains. Integrating tutoring programs in HISD schools across Harris county could dramatically improve the academic performance of elementary, middle and high school students and help reduce the city of Houston’s school dropout crisis specially in minority communities.

Yes, NLE is prepared to tender its services during the school day, before school, after school, and out-of-school time.

Elite Stemm (NLE) provides hands-on curriculum and enjoyable activities in a safe, constructive environment led by experienced and qualified staff. Our team at the corporate office and on-site consists of Project Managers and Site-Coordinators to fulfill the interests of your students utilizing a variety of educational, creative, and recreational resources. NLE has a comprehensive approach to classroom management. First, we always have a minimum of 2 staff for 1 to 10 ratio with an assistant, if a child is acting out, we first work with that child separate from the group to discover what is causing their upset. Many times, just listening helps resolve the child's concerns. Sometimes, we discover they will do better switching classes or working with one on one with our assistants. Rarely we do need to involve the parents, but we can call meetings with the parents if need be. In extreme cases, we opt to remove the child for one week from the program with the parental/school consent. All our staff are highly trained qualified experienced teachers. Since dismissal in HISD takes place campus-wide between 3:15 and 3:20 pm, we can just adjust our start times to accommodate that difference. If student dismissal is at 3:20, NLE check-in at 3:25 – 3:30. Transition to designated space 3:20 - 3:25 pm. Enrichment classes are conducted at 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Dismissal time is at 4:30 pm. NLE staff will be fully responsible to safely release the kids to their parents in person. The student roster will be used to ensure that the kids are released to their registered or designated parents by checking against the government-issued IDs.

NLE suggests that academic tutoring may be an effective way to help students improve their academic skills, stay in school, and/or graduate from high school. One experimental study of the Match tutoring program, 2 an intensive small group math tutoring program in which students receive one hour of tutoring each day from primarily recent college graduates, found that students participating in Match tutoring had higher math test scores and math grades than those who did not participate.

Northlake minimum criteria for staff selection is straight forward - minimum college degree, teaching certification, minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in ES/MS/HS schools and finally no past criminal history

Students with similar learning needs are brought together for a short time. Students are assigned to groups based on need for additional help, time and practice in order to master the content and skills covered in a particular unit or lesson the teacher already has taught to the entire classroom group. Students who have mastered the specific content and skills engage in enrichment activities

NLE will provide all pre- and post-assessment materials.

Formative Assessments: Low-stakes assessments are really the most important and useful student data. Exit slips, brief quizzes, and thumbs up/thumbs down are a few of my favorite ways to gather information on where students are and where we need to go next. Results will be mailed to the school administrators as well as parents in English and Spanish.
